Kirkin' o' the Tartans

celebrating & blessing our heritage

What is a kirkin'? The service begins with a processional of Tartan banners representing some of the various clans of Scotland. The emphasis for the day is on our Scottish heritage as American Presbyterians.

In addition to being a fun and uplifting service, there is actually a more serious purpose: it is not so much a reminder of our cultural heritage, but of our theological inheritance from our Scottish forebears in the faith, whether we’re of Scottish descent or not. The Scots have left their mark on us as a religious tradition, as well as on us as a nation.

Piper Paul Watson will join us in worship at the 11 a.m. service. Following the service, there will be a luncheon in Fellowship Hall.

So break out your kilt, practice your best Scottish brogue, read a little of Robbie Burns’ poetry, and—if you dare—eat a little haggis to get ready for the service. And join us on November 13 for a day to celebrate!
